Designing the Visual and Strategic Core of UK Startup Hub

March 2025

This project began with a blank slate. We developed the core concept, strategic positioning, and full visual system to launch UK Startup Hub as a structured, founder-focused ecosystem.

Project Overview

To build a unified national platform consolidating startup listings, founder events, funding opportunities, and ecosystem resources across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

UK Startup Hub began as a local founder events calendar and evolved into a UK-wide platform aggregating startups, funding opportunities, venture builders, and ecosystem resources. Sensori defined the strategic framework and built the full brand and digital system to support national scale.

The project began as an Edinburgh-based founder events calendar and startup listing. Growing demand across regions led to its expansion into a structured UK-wide platform to put all startup ecosystem information in one place.

Approach

Fashion shooting in the studio

We approached the project as ecosystem infrastructure instead of as a content site. By mapping founder needs and industry gaps across Scotland and the UK, we structured fragmented information into a clear, scalable platform prioritising usability, logical architecture, and long-term growth support.

UK Startup Hub now operates as a growing national infrastructure platform, with increasing user traction, expanding ecosystem visibility, and an integrated Slack community driving founder connection.

Process

We defined the platform concept, built the brand architecture, and executed the full visual and digital system through operational launch and continued brand development.

We approached the project by first structuring the concept and defining its role within the wider founder ecosystem. That framework informed the brand system, UX architecture, and end-to-end platform execution.

The design philosophy is centred on direction and cohesion. A compass mark and space-inspired visual language symbolise founder momentum, while a distinct four-colour system reflects the UK’s nations without defaulting to conventional tech or national palettes.

Brand Consistency

The final designs establish a coherent identity and digital platform that translate strategic direction into a scalable, founder-focused ecosystem interface.

The final outcome is a fully operational brand and digital ecosystem integrating identity, web platform, and app into a cohesive national startup infrastructure, designed to support discovery, connection, and long-term platform expansion.

Product Images

"Watching the platform grow from a Scotland-focused initiative into a UK-wide ecosystem within a year was deeply rewarding. Seeing founders actively use it and engage through the community confirmed how needed the infrastructure was and how design can genuinely bring people together." Viktoria Kampbell

Achievements

"Partnering with the Scottish Startup Hub has been a great experience for Cathcart Technology. As a sponsor, we’ve been able to engage directly with some of Scotland’s most innovative and ambitious founders, and it’s been inspiring to see the energy and ideas coming out of this community."

Gordon Kaye, Cathcart Technology

The platform evolved from concept to a nationally recognised startup infrastructure, achieving sustained user growth, cross-country visibility, and active community engagement within its first year.

Reception was strong, particularly as interest expanded beyond Scotland into wider UK regions. Increased user engagement, repeat visits, and community interaction demonstrated that the platform was filling a genuine infrastructure gap within the startup ecosystem.
